Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Bridging Divides (BD) offers an Internship Program designed to provide training, mentorship, and paid employment to undergraduate students who self-identify as being a part of underrepresented and equity-deserving groups. This program is a robust training and mentorship opportunity for the students. The Researcher Supervisor will train and mentor the undergraduate student with the skills needed to build their academic and professional careers.

In order to apply for the Bridging Divides Undergraduate Underrepresented Internship, interested students must identify a Bridging Divides faculty Research Supervisor. A list of potential supervisors is available in the application form. Students are expected to independently reach out to their potential supervisor with an expression of interest in the internship. Once both the student and supervisor are in agreement, they will each submit an application form to complete the application process:

Undergraduate underrepresented interns support Bridging Divides in addressing migration research knowledge gaps in Bridging Divides four main research themes: 1) Immigrant Health and Wellbeing, 2) Employment and Lifelong Learning, 3) Place and Infrastructure and 4) Citizenship and Participation with an intersectional approach that focuses on Advanced Digital Technologies. The internships provide a distinct opportunity for undergraduate underrepresented students to gain transferable research skills in preparation for their future career prospects such as graduate school or the job market.

Eligibility To be eligible to apply for an internship: You can be a domestic or international student. You must be enrolled full time at Toronto Metropolitan University, as of the deadline date for applications. You cannot have completed all your degree requirements. You must have obtained, over the previous years of study, a cumulative average GPA of 2.67 or better. You cannot be currently registered or have been previously registered, at any time, in a graduate program in the same field of study. If you already hold a bachelor’s degree and are studying toward a second bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for this internship. You may hold only one Bridging Divides undergraduate internship per period. You may hold a maximum of three Bridging Divides undergraduate internships throughout your undergraduate career.

Supervision and Mentorship Bridging Divides Undergraduate Underrepresented interns will identify a Research Supervisor who is affiliated with the Bridging Divides research program and submit a joint application. The internship positions will provide qualified students with learning and professional development opportunities and ensure that participants have a mentor who is able to regularly meet and follow-up with the participant interns. The mentors will assign work to the interns and guide the students by providing additional resources, advice and support.
